Tite Kubo introduced a killer comic in the 2000s which may yet have one of the most suspenseful arcs in the history of shonen in the Soul Society Arc with a menacing villain in Sosuke Aizen. But, it fell short in building the world for the fans.
Seriously, What is "BLEACH"?
We never got to know what was the purpose of the manga. Naruto showed a Jinchuriki who rose to save the world but, also made an impact by the uniting countries, his fellow Jinchuriki in cloud and wind villages united these three countries even if the fourth shinobi war ended. He made connections that can influence international politics, a benefit he brought when he became Hokage(alliances help build a coalition when all this friendship unites shinobi bullshit is over).
What did Bleach show? There are hollows, the living and the dead(Passed on!, Reapers). Ichigo is part of the living fighting the Hollows(Diseases/Souls in denial). Aizen a dead wants to sacrifice the living to make a key to reach/attain ultimate power. but, what was his goal?
There were so many routes to make Aizen meaningful, a clash of philosophies. Maybe Aizen wants to be human, be part of the living. dead coming back is not possible so, reviving into living whilst maintaining his identity should be the goal. Something that hollows deny by consuming dead souls. But, none of this was covered?
Second, what are Quincies, are they catholic apostles performing rights not followed in japan(Shintoism or Buddhistic beliefs are normally dominant in Japan).
There exists a Heaven, Hell, Heucomundo, and the World of Living in Bleach. But, which cultural rights do these represent? Because similar concepts are not unanimous across all nations/religions. In Dragon Ball, we saw a more diverse world where King Kai rules the heaven where people from all religions and species arrive from the galaxy. This wasn't explained or established, the world was limited to Karakura Town, they could have introduced other substitute reapers and such from other parts of Japan. Now, he is doing it with "Burn the Witch" but, it's too little too late.
Next, Hueco Mundo, the world where hollows hide or disappear. How did it come about to exist? Why haven't shinigami made a move to address this? Aren't shinigami's purpose to rid of hollows to cleanse the spirit. Why not slowly launch a war to rid of Hueco Mundo instead of the meaningless war with Quincy.
Ichigo Kurosaki, what a waste!
Aizen was never really explained as a character. The man spent an eternity masquerading in soul society only to fall for a thoughtless and emo MC. But, Ichigo Kurosaki doesn't register in anyone's mind as having had an impact on his own story. There comes a time in a shonen character's history where he leaves an impression like naruto with the Gaara fight and his clash with Sasuke's philosophies(Even if I think Sasuke was right, we still remember). But, Ichigo had no impact on his fight with Aizen, his past was not explained at this point so, no link known with Aizen. We never got to empathize with the villain (In avengers we kinda understood Thanos's actions. In Naruto, we understood Itachi and Sasuke's actions) But, Bleach screwed this important factor for character development, skipped it in its entirety, and moved to a new villain with a trivial ideology)
"All I remember is that he cries all the time that he is weaker or losing control to the hollow and that doesn't think things through before any action"
I think Urahara was the best character but, he got wasted as well, a Urahara vs Aizen would have made perfect sense as they both had similar goals. They both sought to understand hollowfication. One as a means for great power, other for stability.
Another angle was memories/regrets from the past influencing the present. Maybe a shinigami wants to take revenge on the living past self, why did he die? The disparity of the living world. What is the boundary between the living and dead? If there exists such hierarchical order in both Seretei and the living world. The only difference being you cant die from hunger in Seiretei.
There were so many storylines they could have pursued but, Tite failed us all.
BUT, SADLY THE EVEN BIGGER DISSAPOINTMENT WAS ATTACK ON TITAN.
More on that later.
